Young people from the Grassy Narrows First Nation in north-western Ontario, Canada are fighting for a healthy future for themselves and their community.
For much of the last five decades, the federal and provincial governments have withheld crucial health information from the people of Grassy Narrows, refused to clean-up the river system, failed to provide specialized health care, and even denied that there was a threat from mercury poisoning.
If Canada had taken decisive action to fulfill its human rights obligations, the lives of young people from Grassy Narrows would be profoundly different. A recent expert study sets out the case that mercury poisoning has created one of the worst community health crises in Canada and that young people are particularly affected.
We demand justice for inhabitants of Grassy Narrows.
Yours sincerily,
